For his research pursuits in high school, Michael has gained recognition at esteemed international science competitions, being named a 2015 semifinalist in Khan Academy’s Breakthrough Junior Challenge and winning a Grand Award in the category of Cellular and Molecular Biology and a special award from the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science at the 2017 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), for his project titled “Identification of TBX3 as a Novel Regulator of Lung Angiogenesis.” Michael has continued his research endeavors in college, working under the direction of Dr. Shahin Rafii at Weill Cornell Medicine’s Ansary Stem Cell Institute, investigating the role of mechanical stress on transcriptional gene expression in the endothelium and on angiogenic sprouting during development.Outside of the medical field, Michael enjoys writing, having written and published articles for The Huffington Post.
