Until recently, users who wanted to take advantage of these additional functions, such as e-filing, needed to obtain separate credentials from each court to log in to that court’s CM/ECF site in order to do so. The district was created on September 18, 1966. NextGen is the culmination of a multi-year project headed by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts to provide for the current and future filing and case management needs of all CM/ECF users.

CM/ECF provides more functionality than PACER, including the ability to electronically file cases and documents, to control electronic service and notice of documents, and to update a user’s contact information for the electronic service of documents.

The chief judge serves for a term of seven years or until age 70, whichever occurs first.

If you have an upgraded, individual PACER account and you know your old CM/ECF login and password, you have everything you need to link your accounts, which you will be prompted to do the first time you log in to CM/ECF on or after February 18, 2020. The age restrictions are waived if no members of the court would otherwise be qualified for the position. When the office was created in 1948, the chief judge was the longest-serving judge who had not elected to retire on what has since 1958 been known as "CDCA" redirects here.
