Labour relations update - April 22 A tentative agreement has been reached between the province and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) teachers. Today was unfortunately another unproductive day. We will continue to update parents/guardians with new information as soon as it becomes available. The electronic translation service on the Toronto District School Board website is hosted by Google Translate, a third party service. We will continue to monitor the situation and its impact on secondary students and will keep you updated as the situation changes. We know that as parents and caregivers, it is important for you to know how this situation may affect your child so we are providing you with an update. This means that OSSTF Teachers and OSSTF Education Workers will be in a legal strike position in 17 days, which is November 18, 2019. OSSTF/FEESO has simply requested that the Government reset negotiations to where they should have started; that is, status quo to the expired collective agreement. OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Office, along with your local bargaining unit, wants to keep members informed of the collective bargaining process. This summary explains all of the articles in the Support Staff Central Agreement and highlights the areas where OSSTF/FEESO is proposing changes. As such, there will be limited impact on students. OSSTF had proposed to bring our EW and T/OT Benefit plans together for increased sustainability and efficiencies, but the response has been to restrict and constrain the Benefit Trust’s operations. As demonstrated in the most recent polling results, the more that public awareness is raised through job actions, the higher the level of support for teachers and education workers. Later that evening, OSSTF/FEESO responded with a response including incremental adjustments to our original positionsTwice this week, the Minister of Education Stephen Lecce has held press conferences on negotiations while we have waited to actually negotiate. To find out the status of schools during labour action:As a board, we respect our secondary teachers, occasional teachers, Custodial and Maintenance staff, Educational Support Staff, Professional Student Services Personnel, and Supervision Monitors and Cafeteria Assistants and value their work with and for students. OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has 60,000 members across Ontario.
